Using the gauge, overtravel measurement is safe for the first time with all the bodymaker guards closed and interlocked. One measurement method previously used requires the operator to insert feeler gauges in the domer housing while the machine is running with the guards open - a very dangerous procedure compounded by the likelihood of being soaked in coolant. The transducer for dome overtavel is mounted on the dome station using existing holes in the case of the Microdomer or by drilling and tapping two holes, if necessary, on other types of dome station. An additional adaptor bracket may be required. The display unit remains outside the bodymaker guards for easy readings. The added flexibility of incorporating ram alignment provides a major improvement over the existing gauge. A few simple changes to the display unit allow it to be changed from dome overtravel to ram alignment measurement. The use of dedicated channels for both measurement functions provides a more robust solution, coupled with the cost savings from only requiring one display unit. The equipment comprises a linear transducer with mountings for dome overtravel. A further linear transducer and ram alignment body complete with adapter are included for ram alignment measurement. The digital display unit is housed in an aluminium case, complete with a carry handle/foot. All the equipment is stored in a tough waterproof protective case. For maximum protection, each item has its own pocket cut into the foam interior. The case comes complete with a lid organiser and is fitted with wheels and a retractable handle for easy movement.
